PART.01 The Classics Witnessing the Evolution of Carpet Art

In 2023, when participating in the Milan Design Week, Nani Marquina subverted the fashion rules in the carpet industry. Her father, Rafael Marquina, is one of the design pioneers in the Catalan region of Spain. Since childhood, she has been immersed in the creative world created by her father. After completing her studies in industrial design in Barcelona, she started to engage in the decoration industry and founded the brand Nanimarquina with her own name in Barcelona in 1987. Since the establishment of the brand, they have cooperated with many international designers, committed to the combination of craftsmanship and innovation. At the same time, they also pay attention to environmental sustainability, adopting environmentally friendly materials and implementing sustainable processes.

PART.02 Designers & Brand Collections

At the beginning of the brand’s establishment, all works were independently designed by Nani marquina. She realized that the growth and development of the brand required like-minded designers to join. So, globally renowned designers and artists such as Begüm Cana Özgür, Jaime Hayón, the Bouroullec brothers, as well as Santi Moix and Sybilla have cooperated with her.

#01 Shade Collection

The Shade Collection is an exquisite and minimalist collection designed by designer Begüm Cana Özgür. The inspiration for this collection comes from the magical moments in nature, where colors blend with each other, speaking for themselves. The entire design process is handmade starting from the conceptualization stage.

Designer: Begüm Cana Özgür

Just as colors blend with the sky, the Shade carpets are defined by their complex and emotional color gradients.

#02 Silhouette Collection

The Silhouette Collection of carpets designed by the Spanish genius designer Jaime Hayon for the carpet brand Nanimarquina adheres to the consistent humor and casualness. The childlike design patterns are handwoven with colored threads and can be used both outdoors and indoors.

Designer Jaime Hayon describes the process, stating, “This happens under very special circumstances, where form, material, and use are depicted metaphorically as an ideal way to portray emotionalism.” A perfect example is the Nani Marquina rugs: the form is ideal, allowing absolute freedom in working, akin to a painting or tapestry.

#03BLUR Series, designed by the Bouroullec brothers, achieves this blur effect by reversing the traditional kilim weaving direction, making the production process more labor-intensive. The designers, Bouroullec brothers, base Blur on geometric sequences and repetition, a signature feature of theirs. This indoor kilim rug is lightweight and durable. Black lines are drawn on a gray-white background, a typical characteristic of Afghan wool. Swipe right to see more.

#04Tres Series, co-created by brand founder Nani Marquina and designer Elisa Padrón, combines three pieces of woven fabric. Different weaving directions and irregular thread textures, along with the life breathed into Tres by handcrafting, make it an impressive sight at first glance. Through this series, our wish is to restore basic elements, appreciate the beauty of details, and respect tradition. Tres is a traditional Indian flat-woven Dhurrie rug. Its unique quality lies in being meticulously crafted from three separate parts, where different fibers dominate. The ratio and combination of wool, felt, and cotton create variations in shading and irregularity, giving life to the pattern.
